Enhance the natural beauty of unfinished wood with our plant-based Nature’s Wood Stain™.
Basic Technique Application – Single Color Stain Application
Nature’s Wood Stain™ is a semi-transparent stain. Semi-transparent stains have pigmentation but allow for the wood grain or textures of the surface to show through. Nature’s Wood Stain™ is a hybrid water and bio-based oil product. The water content helps the stain penetrate deep into the wood or porous surfaces, while the oil provides a durable finish once cured.
Supply List

STEP ONE
Surface Preparation
Surface Preparation. Previously painted, stained, and sealed surfaces may not accept stain readily. We recommend a test spot to see if the existing finish needs to be removed before staining. Stripping and sanding may be required prior to application. If stripping, wipe back the surface with clean water. Allow the surface to dry and off-gas for 24 hours to ensure no surface chemical residue remains prior to staining. Surfaces should be free of cleaner residue, dust, dirt, and debris. Surfaces should be dry before Nature’s Wood Stain™ application.
STEP TWO
Stir Stain
Stir the Nature’s Wood Stain™. Stir from the bottom up before every use – Do not shake. Shaking creates air bubbles in the stain which can be transferred to the surface causing undesired results. If bubbles appear while stirring, allow the bubbles to completely settle before application.
STEP THREE
Application of Stain
Apply the Nature’s Wood Stain™. Dip the 25mm Flat Brush into the stain. Apply the stain liberally, but evenly, across the surface using controlled linear strokes. Try to avoid drips, excessive lap lines, and pooling. Allow the surface to dry a minimum of 2 hours before applying a second coat. For full coverage, apply a second coat of stain. Additional coats should only be applied after the recommended dry/recoating times have elapsed. Note: If desired, 3-4 coats of stain can be applied. The recommended recoat time between each coat is 2 hours.
After the final coat is applied, allow the surface to dry a minimum of 72 hours before use. For optimal results, allow surfaces to cure up to 1 week before use.
Application of Stain Variation – Softer Effect (Wipe Back)
Apply the Nature’s Wood Stain™. Dip the 25mm Flat Brush into the stain. Apply the stain liberally, but evenly, across the surface using controlled linear strokes. Try to avoid drips, excessive lap lines, and pooling. Using a dry lint free cloth, wipe back the coat of stain to reveal a softer, less saturated finish.
After the stain is wiped back, allow the surface to dry a minimum of 72 hours before use. For optimal results, allow surfaces to cure up to 1 week before use. For a softer finish, an additional sealer maybe desired for added durability and protection.

STEP FOUR
Seal
Optional Sealer. Due to it’s unique formulation, the stained surface does not require an additional sealer if two coats of stain are applied for full coverage. However, if an additional sealer is desired, after 72 hours the surface can be sealed with Seal with Artisan Enhancements™ sealers Clear Finish or Clear Topcoat. (See Sealer Tip Sheet for proper sealer application). Note: If only applying one coat of stain or using the “wipe back” technique, we recommend applying one thin coat of Clear Topcoat sealer before use.
