Aged Metallic Finish with Artisan Enhancements Pearl Plaster and Bio Savvy Stains

This unique plaster urn was just crying out for an elegant new look.  We were on a mission to play up those details that were all but lost in the solid, matte black finish.  Although metallic seemed a good idea, we wanted to go for a more old world, regal look as opposed to shiny and new.

We have recently discovered that mixing a small amount of Bio Savvy Stain with Pearl Plaster creates lovely, soft metallic glazes.  You can achieve a variety of colors by adding more or less stain and even mixing the different stain colors with one another.

Here we have mixed Roasted Pecan with Pearl Plaster to create a glaze reminiscent of a champagne color.  We used our small round brush to apply the glaze to the urn.

By adding a bit more Roasted Pecan stain to our mixture we created a darker color that we then applied just to the detailed areas with our large stencil brush.

Clear Topcoat Sealer is our go-to for an exterior grade finish.  We wanted to be able to use this urn as a planter and therefore decided to seal the interior with two coats of Clear Topcoat, as well as the exterior.  We waited 24 hours between Clear Topcoat Sealer applications and used our Topcoat Brush to apply.  Two weeks of cure time is recommended before outdoor use of any piece sealed with Clear Topcoat Sealer.

We hope this tutorial has inspired you to mix  your own custom metallic glazes with Pearl Plaster and Bio Savvy Stains!  Please pin this post for future reference and to share the inspiration with your friends!  Be sure to hashtag #artisanenhancements and #biosavvybrands in your social media shares!  We love to see what you’re working on!
